A post on the start of my xc season and a triple race report:
With the season of mud and cold already underway, I’ve already ran in County Relays, a League race and another xc relays, since the end of September.
Sussex XC Relays Champs

Despite the xc season normally being cold and mud, the relays were dry and as my first xc race as an U17, I was now racing with the senior men and U20’s today. I was the first leg of three and had a decent start over, the little over 3.5km lap. I opted for trail shoes like last year where I ran all the league races in trail shoes except the champs, but it worked fine.
After being first to the first corner and dead turn between the wooden bollards I slowly was overtaken by a few quicker adults and u20’s who disappeared up ahead. I managed to hold decent ground through the stony paths and came out onto the grass as first U17 with a good gap. Closing up on the hills I just got overtaken on the finish straight by an U20 but managed to come in 6th overall for the hand over.
Final Result – Team 1st (U17). Good to win the xc relays this year and I had the fastest U17 leg of the day too.

Sussex XC League Race Rd.1
Back at Goodwood Racecourse like the relays for the first league race. I managed a solid race over a longer distance of 5km, as compared to last year. I had a comfortable first couple km’s and then went away from everyone halfway round, on one of the paths and got a lead. From there it kind of strung out as behind and I managed to hold the lead over the grass climbs and windy slog. Final Result – 1st. I stayed controlled which was good then went with a gap which held. Also 2nd place by Brighton & Hove ac too and some solid team finishes around as well.
Southern XC Relays
A long drive through the traffic light city of London last weekend, meant travelling to Wormwood Scrubs for the southern xc relays. With three legs again I was the last this time and again with u20’s. Being around playing fields, I didn’t expect the course to be that great. Even though it was just flat it was a bit better than I thought with a wooded type section and pretty muddy, thanks to a wet and dreary Saturday. With our team in a strong position already, I went off and felt pretty good and caught a couple runners early before reeling in some others over the course of 3km. Our team finished 6th and I had the 2nd quickest last leg (0.2s off 1st) and 5th or 6th quickest U17 leg overall, finishing in a little over 9.30.
Some good racing had already this end of the season and I hope I can continue it forward and I look forward to what’s coming and some new race venues.
Thanks for reading.
