This month’s post is fairly shorter given that I’ve started some GCSE’s but the highlights from the month were my first ‘proper’ round of the British Super Series and achieving a PB over 5km on the road.
Llanelli
I went into the first tier at the Llanelli Super Series in Wales after a 24th place Youth A finish at the Performance Assessments at the beginning of April (you can read about the race in April 2023) and got ready to race on the 13th. Travelling to Swansea to stay the previous night takes quite a while considering I came from near the coast in the South East (England), but I managed to get a short run in to stretch the legs, before being ready for the morning.
I raced after the lower tier, so got to see them race my course before it was my turn to run into the dock on a 400m loop and exit onto a fully-flat 12km bike and 2.5km run. After being called up and getting a place on the sand, the race started. With a short run in to the water, I managed to get started cleanly and exit in a strong position having a decent T1, to begin the bike leg. This was the first race on my new bike and I’d managed to get some rides in prior, which was good, but I just wanted to say thankyou to Moda Bikes who helped me with getting a road bike that’s fast and fits me. The Finale road is a great bike, with an aero frame and strong handling. I’m using more basic Mavic wheels that are fine at the moment but some deeper sections in the future will be lighter and a good investment. You can access the Moda page here: https://www.moda-bikes.com/ or search Moda bikes wherever, but I’m looking forward to racing on it at the next Super Series again in, now, a few weeks. Back to the race, I was just off the front bike group (apart from a group of 2 off the front) and was on and off getting slowed down on the dead turns, being at the back, losing and regaining again, before finally catching on after timing it right and settling in for the rest of a lap and a half of 3 bike laps.
Going onto the run, where I hoped I would be able to gain some more places, I got stomach cramps pretty soon on, which was annoying but I gained a couple places still to finish 9th Youth A and 15th overall – a strong improvement and progress from 24th Youth A and 41st overall at PA’s.
I’m really happy with the result, putting me 12th in the rankings, in a good position for the next round of heats, finals and a mixed relay, at Mallory Park, over the 24th/25th June weekend.

I also managed a PB over 5k in 15.41, in the evening, along the seafront at my Club 5k, where I managed to go sub-16 minutes, as well as knock 19s off my 5k time and 24s off the time I’ve set twice previously there before.
A strong, solid month, and I’m looking forward to the rest of June for some more racing and a good time enjoying training outside in the sun (and heat) again.
