April 2023

April kicked off with the beginning of my triathlon season, starting with the British Triathlon Super Series Performance Assessments in Nottingham and Loughborough, before some running PB’s and a county championships.

Performance Assessments

First day of the month, on Saturday, I drove up to Nottingham Uni to do my 400m swim, in order to set a start time for Sunday’s bike-run. Now old enough to compete in the series, I was in Youth A category (15-16) yet racing Youth B, as well (17yrs) over a 400m timed swim on the Saturday and a 10km bike and 2.5km run on the Sunday. With some fast swimmers, I finished with a PB, in my second timed 400m but with a bit of catching up to do, being 59th Youth A and around 80th overall. My bike and run are stronger so was looking forward to put the effort in, having to finish top 75 Youth A to qualify for Llanelli but top 30 to get into the first Tier. My bike leg was strong and I led out a lot of the front of the group I ended up in, with only a couple others helping to take a turn, so getting to the main group, only 10 seconds ahead at one point, was quite difficult to bridge the gap to. I came off the bike having made a good amount of places, then found my rhythm on the run and began to pick off places before coming through the two lap run 24th Youth A and 41st overall. Having covid a couple weeks before wasn’t the best prep, but I was still really happy with my result and my first race in the Super Series. I recently received conformation that I qualified for the race in Llanelli on the 13th May and in Tier 1, as well, so can’t wait to race in Wales in a couple of weeks.

Sussex Road Relays.

I ran in the Sussex Road Relays with the Brighton team over the flat, 1 mile loop. I went on the 2nd leg of 3 and got us into 1st, but we were only a couple of seconds behind the leading team after the first leg. I managed to get a good gap and ran my quickest mile, in about 4.45, which was one of the quickest of the day. My team finished 1st after 3 fast legs, meaning county road relay champions after 2nd last year.

5k PB

At the end of the month, I ran in my club 5k. I ran the whole race solo but was super happy to have achieved a PB of 15.41, having turned at halfway in 8.07, going into a headwind, but cracking down and running just above 3’00″km pace over the back 2.5km to get a Sub 16 5km and a 20 second PB.

Rest of the month:

I did the Medway Duathlon, more as part of a training race but ended up going hard, racing close with my friend over the whole run-bike-run, just getting a small gap on the last run lap to win. I managed to finally get a new bike, from Moda, with some great help from them, so a another post might be on here. Thanks if you read all the way down here 🙂
