SUSSEX SCHOOLS CHAMPION 2023

In freezing conditions I raced the Sussex Schools, last Tuesday, qualifier for English Schools in March. I moved up a category since last year and am now year 10, so in the Inter Boys (Year 10/11) category. I was running 6km which was my farthest race yet. The ground was mainly hard and frozen but muddied up pretty quickly on the slight off-camber sections. I was glad to get away at the front for the start and stayed with the front group the whole race. Going onto the second lap after 3km, there was just three of us by this point. I managed to hold on and didn’t want try to get away to early so decided to try and go at the end. On the final flat, with 400m to go it was me and another with 3rd a second or two back. Leading into the finish there was a very brief short, steep rise and a final flat. I wanted to try and get a gap at the very last bit and kicked away, managing to get a good enough gap to win. I qualified for English Schools, in Nottingham this March which I’m looking forward to but I’ll hopefully be racing some more national and county races next month and before in March also.
