Last weekend I ran in the first cross country of the season at Goodwood in the U15s at Round 1 of the Sussex League. My race consisted of two 1km laps than a 2km loop. I decided to wear trail shoes instead of spikes and was one of the only ones wearing them but they helped a lot over the harder rockier ground.
I had a good start and was at the front of the race for the two first laps. The race was pushing quite a fast pace but I was in a comfortable position then I broke away as we were going onto the 2km lap and got a gap on behind. No one went with me so I was on my own and at about 1/3 of the way into the last loop I had around a 10 second lead. I managed to extend it to about 20 seconds from then till the finish. My team did amazingly (1st, 2nd, 4th) so we got really good team points. This round and the next qualifies for Southern InterCounties XC and top 8 get through. I feel I put my best out there and ran a good race so now I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.
