Fell running and my last aquathlon of the year.

Fell Running and Grasmere Sports Show

At the end of August whilst in the Lake District I went to the Grasmere Sports Show, near Ambleside. I entered in the 800m and the fell race. The 800 was on a grass track of around 200m and ended up being a heat and final with staggered ages. It was a fun event to do and I ended up winning so was happy and enjoyed it. I was looking forward to the fell race, later in the day though as I hadn’t done one before. It was around a mile long but with over 200m of elevation gain. I ran to the top with the front runner who pushed a hard pace over the steep incline. At the top you had to climb over a fence then climb up a large rock and run around the pole (the turn point). We were still together at this point and just as the downhill began you had to jump off a wall. I carried a lot of speed on the way down, but had minimal grip on my shoes as I didn’t have fell shoes. I overtook on the way down and fell over when I couldn’t slow myself down. I had to adapt quickly and just learn to let my legs go – not that I had much choice anyway :). I was pleased with how I descended and crossed the road onto the flat coming across the line 1st. I loved every second of the race and can’t wait to do another!

Ashburnham Aquathlon

This was my last aquathlon of the year, also the last race I was doing in the South East Triathlon Series. I had a really good swim exiting the 500m lake swim 2nd – a second or two behind 1st who was in the Youth category whilst I was in Tristar 3 – so I was in 1st in my age group. I had a small gap and I managed to get my wetsuit off swiftly in transition and start the 4 lap run course strongly. I extended my gap and managed to come across the line a minute ahead, in 1st. All my teammates did really well and as I won it meant I won the series because I won 5 out of 5 races. I loved the series so much and it was my last season being a Tristar. Well done to everyone I’ve raced against in the series and who have pushed me hard.
